Minutes of the January 15, 2015 Gold Country Chapter SAR Meeting at the Sierra Smokehouse and Grill in Auburn, CA

President Greg Hill called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m.

Opening: Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gordon Clark. Ernie McPherson led the SAR Pledge.

Members and Guests: Jim Faulkinbury the current California State Society President was recognized as a guest. There were two DAR members from the Captain John Oldham Chapter and they are Armida Manifor and Coreena Ross.

Minutes Approval: Greg Hill asked for approval of the minutes as posted on the website. Dave Gilliard made a motion to approve and it passed unanimously.

Guest Speaker: The guest speaker was Mike Holmes and he spoke about the “Myths of the Revolution.”

Chapter Reports:

President’s Report: Greg Hill spoke about Rex Lowell Wimer who passed away in December. He was a long standing member of the Gold Country Chapter.
Greg Hill spoke about Ron Barker falling at home and he is expected to make a full recovery. Greg said that Barry Hopkins was having health issues.

Treasurer: David Gilliard said that he was able to get the Vanguard Account closed and all of the monies combined at the bank in Auburn.

J.R.O.T.C.: Michael Holmes spoke about the J.R.O.T.C. program and that he has the certificate and medal. He also spoke about the new J.R.O.T.C. program that was being started at William Jessup University. Mike also spoke about the Navy Junior R.O.T.C. Program in Burbank, and the Sacramento Chapter is already involved with their program.

Poster Contest: David Gilliard said the poster contest will begin in February.

Eagle Scout: Dale Ross gave a report that if the Boy Scouts of America releases all of the Eagle Scout names to him. There is a possibility of having over 400 names.

Old Business:

President Greg Hill presented Dale Ross with his Past President’s pin.
President Greg Hill presented Keith Bigbee with the Bronze Roger Sherman Award.
President Greg Hill presented Dave Gilliard with the Bronze Roger Sherman Award.

New Business:

Dave Gilliard spoke about the chapter meeting being changed to Awful Annie’s formerly Lou La Bonte’s Restaurant.

President Greg Hill spoke about the Spring CASSAR Meeting that is being held in Irvine on the weekend of April 17th through April 19th, 2015.

CASSAR President Jim Faulkinbury spoke at the meeting, saying he was glad to be at the chapter meeting.

Dave Gilliard passed the helmet around collecting monies for the Auburn Touch of Home Program. This program helps send care packages to soldiers around the world. There was a discussion about the Touch of Home Program.

Adjournment: Dave Gilliard made the motion to adjourn the meeting. Gordon Clark seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

Closing: The SAR Recessional was led by Keith Bigbee. There was no benediction.
