February 2018 Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the February 17, 2018 Meeting at Mel’s Diner in Auburn, CA

President: President Tony Chakurian called the meeting to order at 8:53 A.M.

Invocation: Compatriot Gordon Clark led the invocation.

SAR Pledge: The SAR Pledge was led by Compatriot Dave Gilliard.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Compatriot Dale Ross.

Introductions of Guests: The guests for the January meeting were Jeannette Clark, Conni Barker, Coreena Ross, Phil Noble, Dennis Oliveras, Elizabeth Hill, Maryanne Gilliard, Eric Johnson.

Approval of Minutes: Dave Gilliard made the motion to approve the minutes as published on the chapter website. Ron Barker seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

Program

The guest speaker for the February meeting was Phil Noble. He spoke about his collection of autographs from significant individuals of the Revolutionary War. President Tony Chakurian presented Phil Noble with a chapter of appreciation certificate.

Chapter Reports

President’s Report: President Tony Chakurian gave his report. He said that he submitted the annual chapter reports.

1st Vice President’s Report: There was no report given at the meeting.

2nd Vice President’s Report: There was no report given at the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Dave Gilliard gave his report at the meeting.

Secretary’s Report: There was no report given at the meeting.

Eagle Scout Report: There was no report given at the meeting.

Valley Forge: There was no report given at the meeting.

Membership Report: Ron Barker said that Fred Haggin application was at national waiting for a signature.

J.R.O.T.C. Report: Mike Holmes said that he presented the chapter’s J.R.O.T.C. medal and certificate at the next J.R.O.T.C. meeting.

Colorguard Reports: Dale Ross said the colrguard presented colors at the District II Meeting for the Daughters of the Revolution on January 27th, 2018. The presentation took place at the Ridge Country Club in Auburn, California. The colorguard participants were presented Certificates of Appreciation from the Emigrant Trails Chapter NSDAR. The following recipients were Mike Hurst, Ron Barker, Gordon Clark, Tony Chakurian, Dale Ross.

June 8th, 2018: The Auburn, California Cruise Night.
July 4th, 2018: The Fourth of July Parade in Nevada City, California.
September 8th and 9th 2018: The Revolutionary War Encampment in Nevada City, California.
September 9th, 2018: The Constitution Day Parade in Nevada, California.
September 29th, 2018: The Auburn Airfest in Auburn, CA.

Chaplain’s Report: No report was given at the meeting.

Newsletter Editor: No report was given at the meeting.

Registrar’s Report: Ron Barker said they were working on application for Dan Sellers.

Old Business

There was no old business at the meeting.

New Business

There was a discussion about bringing back past members who had left the chapter. Dave Gilliard spoke about composing a letter inviting the members to come back to the chapter.

There was a discussion about endorsing Warren Alter for the incoming President General of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution. Dave Gilliard made the motion that a letter of recommendation would be written letter endorsing Warren Alter for the President General of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Ron Barker seconded the motion. President Tony Chakurian called for the vote and the motion carries.

Poster Contest: Dave Gilliard said that they will set up the time and place for the preliminary poster judging contest. The date of the preliminary poster judging contest is March 14th, 2018. The set up for the poster judging contest will start at 5:00 p.m. and the poster judging contest will begin at 5:30 p.m. The address of the poster judging contest is in the Garden Room at the Rocklin Community Center, 2650 Sunset Boulevard in Rocklin, California.

The March Chapter meeting will take place at the Beecher Room in the Auburn, California Library. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. on March 17th, 2018. The address of the library is 350 Nevada Street, Auburn, California. The chapter will be judging the posters for the April CASSAR State Meeting.

Maryanne Gilliard spoke about Alan Brookings recovery from Cancer. The tests came back negative. Alan is currently undergoing Physical Therapy to learn how to swallow again.

Adjournment

President Tony Chakurian called for the meeting to be adjourned. Mike Holmes made the motion for the meeting to be adjourned. Mike Hurst seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Benediction: Compatriot Gordon Clark gave the benediction at the meeting.

SAR Recessional: The SAR Recessional was led by Compatriot Greg Hill.

The meeting adjourned at 10:03 a.m.
